Built Environment Sector Skills Council Group launches new DVD to promote the NI Built Environment industries

The Built Environment sector in Northern Ireland is an exciting and challenging place to work and offers a diverse range of career opportunities. That was the key message communicated to schools career advisers and industry professionals at a special DVD launch event hosted by the Built Environment Sector Skills Council Group at the Ramada Hotel.

The DVD was commissioned by the Built Environment Sector Skills Council Group to specifically raise awareness of the sector and the many and varied career opportunities that exist. With recessionary conditions having impacted the sector, like many others over the last few years, the Built Environment Group wanted to show that a career within the industry can be exciting, challenging and rewarding.

Speaking at the DVD launch event William McMullan, Chair of the Built Environment Sector Skills Council Group commented, “Despite the economic challenges the built environment sector in general remains a strong long term career choice. It is no secret that the recession hit the sector hard, however, work did not stop and today we need to focus on encouraging young people to consider a career in these industries in anticipation of a recovery in the sector.”

William continued, “Given the forecasted upward trend within the sector and feedback received from our membership, we needed to communicate the various career choices available within the Built Environment, as well as the challenges and rewards that a young person can benefit from. The DVD covers each of the five sector skill councils’ footprints and using real case studies really gives viewers a feel for the types of careers and support networks that are available. I am delighted at the end result and am confident that the DVD will turn out to be a valuable communication and promotional tool for the whole Built Environment sector.”
